Modchip and Shield Removal
During my travels out and about I make it my business to drop by the second hand stores to check out what they have, in the town I currently live in however there is not much in the way of used items for sale so I frequent a charity shop or two. The closest and relatively local one is a Red Cross Shop, and while some may laugh and say “Ha Ha you shop in a charity shop” yes, yes I do and have got some awesome bargains from there like this one I am writing about.
Below is an image of what I got for 5 Euros. A PSOne with official controller, 2 memory cards and 3 games. Now as already a bargain as it was there was something in the bundle that made me grab it off the shelf like a man possessed. If you see in the image the Track and Field game… it’s counterfeit… which means that PSOne must have a mod chip inside of it!

So I got the PSOne home and powered it up and it booted to a very interesting menu as you can see below.
Not only is this a mod chipped machine but it’s a funky chip with all the built in features of the plug mod carts for the original play station that still had the parallel port on the back. This pleased me to no end, but I found that the machine was unreliable as in it would work from a cold boot but after some gaming it wouldn’t reset properly. So I opened it up and resoldered all the mod chip points as you will see here.
This helped a little but it was still doing it. But I noticed the modchip got very hot so to help with that I decided to cut away some of the shielding of the PSOne with a pair of scissors that was going to be retired anyways so it looked like this.
Plugged the PSOne back in and it worked like a charm no matter how much gaming I would do it would not overheat (tested overnight and in the morning I switched Gran Turismo 2 for Crash Bandicoot 3 and it reset perfect)
So if you have a mod chip that likes to act up after a while of game play you may want to consider this additional mod to your modchip installation. (Insert Xzibit Meme Joke Here)
